The fried chicken giant is moving. KFC will move its US corporate headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky to Plano, Texas, according to an official statement from its parent company, Yum Brands. The decision is part of a strategy to maintain two locations for its main brands, KFC and Pizza Hut.
The move will affect about 100 of the company’s employees and some remote workers whom the company will assist in the relocation process. It appears that the move may be motivated by two main reasons: Texas has the lowest taxes in the state, and it has many business-friendly policies.
These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders,’ said David Gibbs, CEO of Yum Brands in the company’s statement. The statement added that Yum will keep its corporate offices and the KFC Foundation in Louisville.
However, Kentucky state governor Andy Beshea has criticised KFC’s headquarters move, according to a statement provided to the Associated Press. ‘I’m disappointed in this decision and I think the founder of the company would be too,’ Beshear said. ‘This company’s name begins with Kentucky, and it has marketed our state’s heritage and culture in the sale of its product.’
