Pomegranate has become the fruit that stardom personalities such as Kylie Jenner have incorporated into their daily diet for a variety of reasons. From its natural probiotic properties that promote digestive health, to its phytoestrogens that slow down the ageing process.

The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has shared on several occasions the obsession she feels for this antioxidant fruit, of which she consumes a bowl a day, and which has even inspired her to create a moisturising pomegranate lip oil for Kylie Cosmetics.

Known as the elixir of beauty, it has become a favourite of celebrities in particular, and society in general, who consume it for the many nutritional benefits it offers. These include vitamin C, E and its antioxidant properties that leave the skin looking rosy and glowing. It is also low in calories and its anti-inflammatory effect makes it ideal for purifying diets.

The benefits of the superfood

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in Spain, the pomegranate’s minerals include a considerable potassium content and citric acid, which gives it its characteristic acid taste that enhances the action of vitamin C and helps to eliminate toxins from all the body’s organs.

Pomegranate also contains polyphenols (tannins), which leave a rough sensation on the palate and tongue. These tannins exert an astringent and anti-inflammatory action on the mucosa of the digestive tract.

The fruit also contains flavonoids of the anthocyanin type (delphinidin, cyanidin and pelargonidin), which have an important antioxidant action, inhibiting the production of free radicals and lipid peroxidation and preventing cancer. In addition, animal studies have shown that pomegranate seed extract reduces blood glucose levels and has an anti-diabetic effect.
