The legendary cookbook author, television personality and former personal chef to French President Charles de Gaulle revealed a series of culinary tips during an interview with The Sporkful, Dan Pashman’s podcast. Now, that piece, which originally aired in November 2015, is re-released to bring it up to date to the present moment.
In it, Jacques Pépin, lets slip that one of his favorite drinks in the world is beer. In fact, on set, the presenter offers a beer to the chef, which he delicately pours over a glass. Pépin explains that he always prefers to drink his beers in a glass, and he doesn’t seem to mind that the glass is made of paper.
Continuing the conversation, Pépin then confirms to Pashman that the rumors are true: he keeps the beer together with the truffles in the refrigerator. The reason? According to Pépin, because it’s one more way to surprise his guests. If people ask you, ‘Do you have any beer,’ you say, ‘Yes, yes, it’s next to the truffle in the fridge’.
And unlike most, who use the traditional way of opening a beer with a bottle opener, Pépin says he usually prefers to do it with a knife or fork. Not a very safe option, but one that Pépin seems to be in complete control of.
