As reported by Business Insider, Emily Field, a nutritionist and registered dietitian, suggests that it would be better to swap the fries for a second hamburger. In this sense, the expert stresses the long-term effects of eating this type of food, taking into account how you will feel after eating and how it will influence your body and mood.
Even though a hamburger and french fries contain about the same amount of calories, the idea is not just to look at calories, but to choose more nutritious options. As Field points out, you get fat and carbohydrates with fries, but they lack the additional nutrients a person might get if they chose a second burger.
‘By swapping fries for a second burger, you nearly double your protein intake and reduce the amount of fat and carbohydrates you eat,’ the report says. ‘Given that fast food is already high in fat and carbohydrates and fairly low in protein, this simple change could help stabilize your blood sugar levels.’
If we put the focus on chains like McDonald’s, the USDA shows that a regular hamburger from the restaurant has 12 grams of protein, 10 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbohydrates with 250 calories. McDonald’s fries have 4 grams of protein, 18 grams of fat, 50 carbohydrates and 378 calories.
