It is, without a doubt, one of the gastronomic trends of recent months. Maybe you haven’t heard of the term swicy, but you’ve certainly tasted it somewhere. This concept combines sweet and spicy flavor to become an explosion on the palate and is causing a real furor in the foodie world.
Several brands have joined this trend by launching products that combine two of the tastes that people love separately. And, it seems, together they are equally successful. From Pizza Hut and its spicy honey wings, to Burger King with a mango, citrus and chili soda, the Takis Sweet Chili or Shake Sack and its burger with jam and jalapenos, are just a few examples.
But it is not really something new, because gastronomies such as Korean or Mexican have it very integrated into their traditions. For example, tajín and chamoy are two indispensable condiments to accompany many sweet foods in Mexico, such as mango, apple or watermelon.
In Korea they are more than used to this flavor. In their typical recipes it is normal that it is impregnated with sauces that combine the sweet and spicy touch, as in the tteokbokki, for example.
But it is not an exclusive food flavor. In the liquid section, more and more mixologists are playing with the swicy in their cocktails. Even the confectionery world is also being influenced by this fusion that is giving a lot to talk about.
