The Korean dystopia that everyone is talking about again after the premiere of its second season contains a series of representative elements and/or symbols that feed its narrative. Such is the case of the ‘Dalgona’ biscuits that appeared in one of the survival games of the first season.
In one of the first challenges of ‘The Squid Game’, horror appears sweetened, this time, with a childhood game in which the participants must outline the figure that appears on their biscuit precisely with a needle; until they manage to extract it without breaking it.
Based on the same concept of the figure biscuits that appear in the audiovisual work, with the triangle, the circle, the star and the umbrella, the contestants who now head to the bubble house in Barcelona called Q Tea can enter the game to see if they would really survive. If they do, in this case IRL, they win a t-shirt from the house.
These biscuits are, as in the horror series, the ‘Dalgona’: honeycomb delicacies and/or caramelised lollipops from Korean street food. As they are caramelised, it is much more difficult to complete the challenge, so the easiest way is to opt for the triangle or the circle, like Cristian Sánchez, the TikToker who has gone viral with the video in which he carries out this test inspired by one of the most memorable and gloomy challenges of ‘Squid Game’.
