Sanxenxo is always a destination to take into account, but when it is regatta season even more. During these days that the II Volvo Autesa Cup is being held in its waters, the town of Pontevedra becomes a sailing capital, and even more if it receives the media visit of Juan Carlos I. In addition, in Sanxenxo -and in the Rías Baixas in general- the gastronomic offer is exceptional and the environment too, which makes a visit to this region a feast and a very complete plan. In the gastronomic part, which is the one that touches us the most, we compile some of the best restaurants where you should eat in Sanxenxo and surroundings. You know, good seafood and regattas.

Pepe Vieira

Xosé Cannas’ project is located in an imposing and avant-garde space, where the proposal has grown to become one of the great restaurants of contemporary cuisine in Galicia. After more than 20 years of his own project, he has created his style of “última cociña do mundo”. It operates with three tasting menus and dishes such as razor clams with smoked sardine butter, fried lobster with lemon peel cream and pickled padron, or the ‘Merluza Frita 2011’. In the Museum of Pontevedra, the chef has another venue: La Ultramar, a modern Atlantic tavern.

A Curva

It is a destination for winemakers, sommeliers and oenologists. This tavern has been the business of the hotelier Miguel Anxo Besada for more than a decade and is named after its location on a bend. The cuisine linked to good Galician products (empanada, grilled cuttlefish, skate caldeirada, roast veal or sardines) works, but, above all, its great attraction is the huge and special wine offer, not only formed by many and curious Galician references, but also by champagne and national and international jewels. The same owners run Casa Aurora, a restaurant.

Sabino

Located a few meters from Silgar beach in Sanxenxo, this restaurant with a long family tradition offers a cuisine based on the Galician culinary tradition, but still adapted to the new gastronomic times. And everything revolves around the product -especially Galician-. Proposals such as hake cocochas in green sauce, seafood paella and rice with lobster, suckling veal shank or marinated sardines, the latter of their most recent creations.

Arrocería A Lanzada

A rice grill located in a privileged enclave. A meeting point for local cuisine, using only top quality ingredients. The environment makes it ideal for both disconnecting and relaxing while contemplating the sea, and enjoying cocktails in the Sunset area. Its specialty is rice dishes, but you can also try excellent fish and seafood from the estuary, as well as juicy meats cooked on their embers.

Meloxeira Praia

Meloxeira, the tavern opened in Porto Meloxo by Álvaro Fuentes in 2013, moved in 2022 to Área da Cruz, in San Vicente do Mar (peninsula within the town of O Grove), changing, in part, the proposal to settle in a beachfront beach bar (right here, the chef’s family ran a business for two decades). Fideuá of cuttlefish, seafood rice, bivalves in the iron skillet, grilled recipes and some reminiscences of the recipes of the Galician fusion cuisine of his previous project.

Solla

This business is the continuation of one of the great restaurants in the history of Galician gastronomy. Its first stage dates back to 1961, when Pepe Solla Sr. and his wife, Amelia González, opened in this stone house the space that was awarded a Michelin star in 1980. The second stage began in 2003, when Pepe Solla Jr. took over the business and transformed it into a space for contemporary Galician cuisine, which has always maintained the star. Broth and shell, spider crab, carrot, cow, beet…. These are some of the products with simple names. In summer, its garden becomes a destination for after-dinner cocktails and music.

Culler de Pau

A hotspot for any self-respecting foodie. Here they perfectly interpret the territory so that the diner feels the land through the products that come from it. A gastronomic journey that begins in a privileged place and gastronomic proposals that create ‘taste experiences’ and seek to awaken the senses and connect them with emotions. There is no shortage of products from the sea, the land and spoon dishes, where the balance of flavors, colors, cooking, textures… is paramount.
