Like many other American holidays, Thanksgiving is also replicated in Spain, essentially celebrating a sense of gratitude to loved ones. The tradition is served around the table, with feasts composed of comfort foods such as stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie; although there are many variations and interpretations.
Tonight, if you are in Madrid, you will be lucky enough to live the full American experience in all these restaurants that have wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving in style. Take note.
Intercontinental
On the occasion of Thanksgiving Day, the InterContinental hotel will offer two exclusive gastronomic events that will recreate the most representative flavors of the holiday: a lunch at its El Jardín restaurant, and a sophisticated buffet dinner in pure American style. All accompanied by live music that will enhance the experience.
The menu at El Jardín will feature four courses inspired by traditional American cuisine, including dishes such as coleslaw, pumpkin cream, traditional roast turkey with stuffing and gravy, as well as a selection of desserts such as pumpkin pudding, pecan pie or the classic apple pie.
For the dinner buffet, diners will be able to opt for a hot soup or pumpkin cream soup, as well as a variety of salads, including options such as turkey salad with apple and celery, Caesar, or sweet potato salad with coleslaw. The roast turkey will be served with its signature gravy and traditional cranberry sauce. Sides will include everything from creamy mashed potatoes to smoked Virginia ham, marinated and fried chicken wings, onion rings and classic mac & cheese. Desserts will be the finishing touch: pumpkin pie, a pecan pie and carrot cake, plus a brownie. All accompanied by corn bread and rolls.
China Crown
The China Crown Group, led by siblings Maria Li Bao and Felipe Bao, offers an alternative twist on tradition with a proposal inspired by Chinese imperial cuisine. Its restaurants Bao Li, Lelong Asian Club, Indochina Brasa and China Crown will serve for the occasion its Beijing Imperial Duck, a sophisticated recipe whose preparation requires many hours and dedication. This culinary relic will be accompanied by its classic sides: crepes, leeks and Goji berry quince jelly, which will merge the American and Asian cultures in a unique experience.
Hotel Santo Mauro
Santo Mauro‘s Thanksgiving will feature a menu designed by chef Rafa Peña, which reinterprets the traditional turkey roast with mashed potatoes. The feast will begin with appetizers to share that will include the essential macaroni and parmesan cheese. The main course, of course, will be the Thanksgiving turkey, with stuffed peppers, confit and au gratin, accompanied by roasted garlic mashed potatoes. As the icing on the cake, a pecan pie will be served with coffee or tea.
New York Burger
New York Burger also wanted to experience this day with a special menu created by its executive chef, Pablo Colmenares, which will be available by reservation until Sunday, December 1. The main course will pay homage to tradition with a turkey with walnut wood, cooked for more than 4 hours in their smoked oven, and finished on the grill. This will be accompanied by 100% homemade sides: a sweet potato puree, turkey gravy and cranberry jam, to finish with a cheesecake or an oreo tart.
But that’s not all. FRIENDS fans will be able to enjoy the real-life FRIENDS Giving Sandwich, which recreates the sandwich that captivated Ross Geller, filled with turkey, cranberry jam, roasted garlic aioli and arugula.
