The most liberating trend on the platform seems to be here to stay. It is ‘BALKAN BREAKFAST’, and as with almost every trend that is born and dies in the ocean of the internet, it has generated controversy among users and nutritionists.
Firstly, it should be noted that in the twelve countries of the Balkans, regional breakfast dishes include large feasts of grilled fish, hot peppers, local cheeses and many other vegetables.
The Balkan breakfast then becomes the inspiration for this new diet trend, similar to ‘girls dinner’, but in a more ‘extreme’ version. The trend in question was born on TikTok thanks to the projection given to it by @.dayi_, and includes whole raw vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers, accompanied by cheese and bread.
Other TikTok users have been quick to join the trend and have started eating raw vegetables, bread, cheese, cheese, pickled vegetables, sausages and even some sauces, such as Ajvar, a red pepper-based condiment popular in the Balkans.
As Balkans we eat them like a charcuterie board, cut into pieces. In my house we have cured bacon, onion, pepper, cucumber, tomato, feta cheese and fresh bread,’ commented one user. Others, meanwhile, pointed to a concern that has swept the interwebs: the high amount of fibre in these vegetable/bread/cheese breakfast plates.
