Since Sofia Vergara premiered the series Griselda a few weeks ago, the Colombian actress hasn’t stopped promoting and traveling around the world. In between so much flying, the iconic star of The Modern Family shared one of her favorite snacks. It’s wafers with arequipe, one of the most typical Colombian desserts that, perhaps, you didn’t know yet.
This sweet is made with very thin wafers that are spread with arequipe, also known as dulce de leche or cajeta, manjar or manjar de leche. In the Instagram video -which accumulates more than 500K likes- Vergara can be seen very concentrated while preparing a wafer with arequipe.
Wafers are thin toasts originating from the 15th century and are made with flour, water, eggs, sugar and milk or white wine. As they are so thin, they are very crunchy and you have to be careful when spreading the dulce de leche on them because they are quite fragile -as it happens to Sofía herself in her post-. The final touch to enjoy an appetizing wafer with arequipe is to make a sandwich with two wafers filled with dulce de leche, although it can also be jam or any other sweet ingredient you fancy.
Did you know about arequipe wafers before you saw them on Sofia Vergara?
