During Usher‘s interview with the Wall Street Journal, he talked about how he prepares himself both physically and spiritually to cope with his hectic life.
The singer’s days begin with ‘a moment of reflection’ that he dedicates to reading, meditation or yoga in order to stimulate his mind and ‘activate his organs’. In this sense, when asked about what he drinks first thing in the morning, Usher jokes: ‘It all depends on how I finished the night before. Sometimes a martini and coffee is appropriate’. No, I usually get up and drink celery juice. I’ve been making this concoction of lemon, ginger, water and cayenne pepper. I drink it hot.
For breakfast, the musician usually opts for scrambled eggs with cheese, but only after exercise such as walking, stretching or yoga. On Wednesdays, however, he chooses not to eat at all, and to fast completely. I fast, not for religious reasons, but it’s something my grandmother used to do,’ she explains. I usually try to start around 11pm the day before, and on Wednesday I spend the whole day just drinking water.
Beyond all those rituals he performs, when the artist has to prepare for a performance, such as the Super Bowl half-time show, he intensifies his strict exercise and healthy diet routine even more. I would remedy my body the night before, get up the next day and follow a very strict, low-carb diet,’ he says.
