Beloved by celebrities and reviled by the internet, the combo of six fried chicken nuggets from the exclusive COQODAQ restaurant caused a sensation both on the field and online for its exorbitant price tag. Created by the chefs at the midtown Manhattan restaurant, the creation was on sale during the men’s final between Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz.
These caviar-covered nuggets, which were made available to tennis fans at the US Open’s Arthur Ashe Stadium, got the whole crowd reacting, and even left the court to become the subject of criticism and debate on social media.
Fans reacted against the ‘ridiculous’ price of this ‘new chic’ twist on chicken nuggets at the US Open, while celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Emily Ratajkowski enjoyed this fast food delicacy from the stands of the court.
The public could only access the nuggets if they had a ticket for the elite club at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The stand would eventually sell some 100,000 units during the two-week tournament, according to The NY Times.
Social media went up in flames at the pricey snack, which features Petrossian caviar and a dot of crème fraîche. The stall also sold another version of the nugget topped with black truffle and truffle mayonnaise, priced at $16.67 each.
