Headlines in the media and online content about the Australian Toowoomba Pasta from the Outback Steakhouse restaurant continue to sprout on the internet. The trend is constantly being reborn in many formats, and under different interpretations of the recipe that has caused a sensation, especially in South Korean cuisine. The creamy shrimp fettuccini is sold there in copycat versions in independent restaurants, as well as in instant packs in convenience stores. But what exactly is Toowoomba pasta?
Toowoomba pasta is an invention of the Florida-based Australian-themed Outback Steakhouse restaurant chain, a delicious dish that mixes ingredients such as fettuccini, ketchup, cream, shrimp, garlic, onion, mushrooms, cayenne pepper (sometimes gochujang) and butter.
Outback Steakhouse would not open its doors in Australia until 2001 despite having taken off in the US after its creation in 1987, and is hugely popular in South Korea. There are some 110 restaurants across the country where everyone flocks to try the famous Toowoomba creation that has ended up going around the world.
