On Thursday 28 November, Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated in the USA. A very special event in the country where families and friends gather around the table to collectively kick off the holiday season. For dinner on that day, beyond serving the classics like turkey, celebrities like actress and singer Rita Wilson decide to innovate with dishes like her friend Nora Ephron’s sweet potatoes with orange praline.
According to an interview with People magazine, Wilson makes this every year for Thanksgiving for her husband, actor Tom Hanks, and her family. In addition, in an interview with Parade magazine, the actress said that she loves to cook and that Nora Ephron’s recipe for sweet potatoes with orange praline was one of her favourites. The filmmaker and novelist has immortalised her love for gastronomy in her recipes, artistic expressions or books such as her autobiographical title ‘Heartburn’, which contains creations such as her iconic key lime pie.
Every year at Thanksgiving, I am reminded of my dear friend Nora Ephron and how her influence goes beyond the movie screen. Her recipe for sweet potatoes with orange praline has been a staple at my family’s Thanksgiving for years and will continue to be for years to come. It’s something I look forward to every year in their memory. Stop by for praline sweet potatoes,’ Rita reads in her Instagram post about her touching culinary tribute to Thanksgiving.
