This Mushroom Kingdom restaurant, dedicated especially to the nostalgic millennial generation, has been installed at Universal Studios Hollywood for about a year now, and has mesmerised all game devotees with its immersive culinary concept.

Toadstool Cafe draws inspiration from the aesthetic codes, designs and dining ideas of its predecessor Kinopio’s Cafe, which opened in 2021 at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. A mushroom-themed restaurant serving fast food after an introduction by Chef Toad, who welcomes diners by preparing food in a virtual kitchen.

In its wooden, pastel-coloured dining room, its fandom can decode all the references: from the green Warp pipes to the polka-dot mushroom motifs that run throughout the space. Already at one of its tables, you can enjoy an Italian-American menu through dishes that refer to its iconography and its characteristic characters.

From the pineapple caprese plant or the Mario burger with bacon, mushrooms and cheese, to a Super Star chicken salad or the Luigi burger with pesto and chicken. All served on the plate with an intricate presentation sealed by edible ink decorating the buns or chicken sandwiches.

For dessert, diners or gamers have a choice of a bright pink Princess Peach cupcake, a slice of matcha-covered ‘Mt. Beanpole’ cake or tiramisu cake reminiscent of the game’s question marks, and a Super Star lemonade with boba and star-shaped jelly.
