3D printed food is already a reality. We have discovered what is considered to be the world’s first truly digital bakery that creates edible sweets made with 3D printers. It’s called Sugar Lab, they are in Los Angeles, and they define themselves as a small team of chefs and architect-designers, as well as technology geeks. Their premise is to create designs that create experiences.
Sugar Lab’s innovative concept came about a decade ago when the team invented a new type of culinary printer that used powdered sugar and water, instead of using food pastes like everyone else. Using this unique process, they were able to create highly original and gravity-defying shapes. After perfecting the technique, they were able to produce these eye-catching cakes.
Surprising and sweet 3D proposals
Among the amazing proposals they elaborate in this 3D pastry shop, the one called Zombie Brain Garnish stands out, made with edible glitter, lime and sugar, perfectly arranged on the rim of a cocktail glass. Another surprising shape is the eternal Gobstopper, which is inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Or the Godzilla Matcha Monsters, little monsters made with 100% organic matcha, which you just pour into your water or milk and serve with honey or agave. The pack costs about $22.
