This exclusive bottle emerged from the casks of the Bowmore distillery in 2019 to become an object of desire revered by collectors and devotees of Aston Martin. A whisky on display since then in an exclusive showcase that a cast of collectors who attended its auction at Sotheby’s house last week had the opportunity to access.
In the midst of this atmosphere suspended in luxury and ostentation, the Mokume edition surpassed all expectations and estimates, being bid for $275,000 by an anonymous buyer.
This high-end Bowmore whiskey, notable for having been aged for 52 years, first in American oak Hogshead barrels and then in European oak barrels, features a high-end hand-lapped glass design inspired by the aesthetic imagery of the luxury sports car company.
What does a quarter million dollar whiskey taste like?
ARC-52 Scotch whisky, which features a mid-century modern style, distills a combination of tropical fruit and butterscotch, with notes of apricot, green apple, orange zest and guava. An Aston Martin signature liquid blend that is enhanced by menthol, honey, licorice and nutty aromas.
The drink is also assembled with carbon fiber and a metallic finish with mokume-gane wood grains that take reference from the ancient rocks surrounding the Bowmore distillery on Islay, as well as Aston Martin’s AMR Formula 1 racing car.
