Just a year after the ousting of Pablo Casado as leader of the Partido Popular, a secret lunch has taken place between him and his successor, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The meeting took place in a restaurant near the Senate and the Royal Theatre, as reported by El País. According to reports, Feijóo summoned Casado to La Taberna del Alabardero and the former leader accepted the lunch, after months of disappearing from public life.
The current leader of the PP attended the plenary session of the Senate, and on leaving he had made an appointment with Casada for the meeting, as it seems they had a pending lunch for months and had already shared “reflections” on several occasions since they have a fluid relationship, as reported from Genoa.
La Taberna del Alabardero, traditional Basque cuisine
The restaurant chosen for this important occasion was La Taberna del Alabardero, at Calle Felipe V, 6, very close to Plaza de Oriente. One of the characteristics of the restaurant is its commitment to flavour, tradition and Basque dishes based on seasonal products. In fact, it has its own vegetable garden in Aranjuez and every day they send the fruit and vegetables that make up a menu full of recipes from yesterday and today.
On the menu you can find northern specialities such as aubergine meatballs with Navarrese sauce and black olive powder, crispy pixin with garlic bilbaína and American dots or oxtail on parmentier with vegetables, among others.
This centrally located tavern belongs to the Lezama Group. It was the first restaurant opened by Don Luis Lezama in 1974 and was the origin of the group, which today has two other establishments in Madrid: La Botillería and Café de Oriente. In total, it owns 10 restaurants, a catering line, three hotel and catering schools, an online hotel and catering school and a school.
