At Tapas we love restaurants with history and the history of La Nouvelle Famille is one of those that we fall in love with. The new bar located in the Mallorcan town of Santanyí was born from the wedding of its two founders, Marta Expósito and Manuel Paz, who celebrated their wedding there. Following the pandemic, Marta and Manuel decided to take refuge in Santanyí in search of eternal summers. A few days before their wedding, destiny put them in charge of the last tavern in town, Ca’n Piquer, and they accepted the challenge. Thus was born La Nouvelle Famille (an idea on which their wedding also revolved). Their bar concept is based on those small family businesses, like those of yesteryear, where personal and professional life are constantly intermingled.
A wedding menu
In fact, the restaurant’s menu offers the dishes that Marta and Manuel served at their wedding. This new bar for bon vivants is going to become the perfect refuge to share in good company and enjoy a relaxed and cosmopolitan atmosphere at any time of the day. In the morning, you can enjoy a good specialty coffee accompanied by their daily pastries, or a breakfast such as the Pepperoni bun (made with brioche bread, spicy pepperoni, cheddar and hollow), the Focaccia sandwich (sourdough, Italian ham, comté cheese and pickled gherkins); or the Danish Breakfast (whipped butter, hard-boiled egg, rye bread and compté cheese).
For lunch and dinner, La Nouvelle Famille offers seasonal dishes and wines from small producers, with options such as pickled egg in beet, Sardinillas Millesime, Oyster with mignonette or Crackers with miso butter and sprouts. Also dishes like the Salad of three zucchini and brossat; the Pickled horse mackerel; the Mussels with sobrasada and dill; or the Sheet of pasta caccio e pepe. And, of course, you can not leave without trying their dessert menu with a spectacular pint: Orange wine jelly, the chocolate cup and the Bombón Campaner.
A modern village tavern
The design of the premises has been carried out by the owners themselves. Both Marta and Manuel were clear that they wanted to preserve the essence of the original village tavern and, therefore, made a comprehensive reform, but keeping intact the iconic central bar and the original wood doors and windows. In addition, they have worked with local craftsmen for the tables, doors and the metal of the bars, bathrooms and shelves.
So now you know, if you visit Mallorca this season, La Nouvelle Famille will be the perfect refuge to make you feel at home.
