Madrid’s cocktail scene has been very hot for months, and just a few weeks ago a new hotspot was added: Fat Cats. This new cocktail bar located in the heart of the neighborhood of Las Letras arrives with a strong presence, starting with its facade. With an appearance that is far from a traditional bar, the entrance is very striking for its clandestine look, that something is cooking in there, and more after seeing the showcase with jewelry that keeps the window.

But everything has a reason, and that is that Fat Cats is inspired by the luxurious aesthetics of the 70s and that captivating and disturbing universe of the most famous thieves in the United States, the famous “Fat Cats Burglars”. In fact, the space, signed by Alejandra Pombo, drinks from the appearance of those sumptuous mansions of the 70s that were automatically placed in the focus of any thief.

A menu of great classics, but with a cheeky twist

But the real jewels here are the cocktails. Its striking menu, for whose creation they have counted on the advice of the emblematic 1862 DryBar, proposes a journey through the most classic drinks in the history of the cocktail bar, but with a renewed touch that will surprise in every sip. “Each cocktail has an echo of the past and each night will be an adventure that will transport the customer to a distant era of splendor and mystery, in which excitement and fun are assured,” explains Shivank Singh, one of its founders.

This Fat Cats proposal is, without a doubt, an ode to the great classics. “All our cocktails are variations, a bit mischievous, of easily recognizable drinks such as the Mojito, the Old Fashioned, the Paloma or the emblematic Margarita. Our menu will expand and evolve in the future, always under the maxim of paying homage to the classics, those we all know and appreciate,” adds Fernando Alexander Lobo Chaves, the project’s bartender.

Some of the cocktails that you will be able to taste are

The menu is divided into five sections. To get in tune, there are the Apéritifs, such as the ‘Golden Dream’, inspired by the classic Boulevardier with rye whiskey, little blanc, bitter bianco and Lustau vermouth; or the ‘Black Cats’, made with white rum, black olives and coriander cordial, a twist between the Gimlet and the daiquiri.

The Sour & Daisy section includes other novel proposals such as the ‘Treasures Upstairs’, a version of the classic Margarita with tequila, lime juice, smoke liqueur and agave syrup. In the Long Drinks section, we find renewed classics such as the ‘Watch out Palm Beach’, a reinterpretation of the traditional Mexican Paloma, made with mezcal, falernum, lime juice and grapefruit. The main liquid menu ends with the After dinner drinks, including the ‘Heist Night Fever’, a version of the energetic Espresso Martini with brandy, coffee liqueur, coffee and salted caramel. Of course, there is also room for delicious mocktails.

To complete the liquid proposal, cocktails at Fat Cats can also be paired with a select menu of snacks, with options such as hummus, cheese and cold meats or the iconic pastrami sandwich.
