Dominique Crenn, one of the world’s most renowned chefs, has just returned to her native France to open her first restaurant in Europe, in Paris. The French chef moved to the United States in the 1980s and is the architect of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, a restaurant with three Michelin stars. Now, Crenn has embarked on a new project called Golden Poppy, a name that refers to the gardens surrounding the boutique hotel La Fantaisie, where it is located.
Golden Poppy has the perfect blend of Parisian sophistication with all the essence and roots of California. As they say on their website, it is much more than a restaurant: “it is a place where people from all over the world are welcomed and embraced by the space, the company and the artistic expression of the love of gastronomy”, and has a capacity for 82 diners. “My restaurant is an expression of myself. Of my fantasies. Where I have been and where I want to be,” says Dominique herself.
Cuisine with a California soul
The restaurant serves sustainable cuisine focused on seasonal and locally sourced vegetables and seafood. As for its gastronomic proposal, Crenn makes a fusion of different international recipes. Highlights are its Banana pancakes with smoked Oscietra caviar or the line of sea bass ceviche with a touch of pea milk and tiger milk. There are also other original proposals such as crispy rice with tiger milk and Cantabrian anchovy. Special mention also goes to the golden poppy tacos with abalone and spicy avocado or the curious bottarga flan.
To end the evening with a sweet touch, try the Gordita -coconut and pineapple fritters-. Other desserts are the Japanese orange ice cream or the soy flan -with soy milk cream and soy and passion caramel.
Golden Poppy also features Poppy Café and the Rooftop, all areas surrounded by plants and in keeping with the hotel’s thoughtful and relaxed design.
