London’s CasildAart Gallery was to host a special exhibition showcasing unusual creations in collaboration with Japanese food brand Yutaka to celebrate International Sushi Day.
Ken Furukawa, CEO of Tazaki Foods, said in his press release: ‘We wanted to create an exhibition that celebrated the diversity and creativity of Japanese cuisine, and inspired people to venture into the kitchen at home.
At the exhibition, British food artist Michelle Wibowo would outshine the entire space with her sushi works consisting of busts of different stardom personalities. The ingredients? Foods such as rice, salmon or pickled ginger.
It was really fascinating to see how many ingredients there are to make sushi and how they can be used to create intricate details for the face and hair,’ said the creative.
His works included singers of the calibre of Elton John and Ed Sheeran, as well as English footballers such as Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, depicted in 18cm high and 10cm wide formats.
I’m used to creating sculptures with unconventional materials, but working with sushi ingredients was something completely different,’ Wibowo said in the press release.
