Latin America continues to add models to its iconic display of cultural versions of classic sneakers. Now, it does it through the reinterpretation of the adidas Superstar “Concha”, with which it pays tribute to the local gastronomy: the sweet shells.
adidas Originals presents a delicious collaboration inspired by one of the most beloved foods by Mexicans, which has become a national symbol made with a layer of sugar, butter and flour, which can be white (vanilla) or brown (chocolate). Although there are currently other contemporary versions of the food with other ingredients such as strawberries, nuts or matcha tea.
CULINARY STREETWEAR
This sweet bread is thus decontextualized through fashion to exist now in the form of a sneaker. A new edition or story that had its genesis last May 4, 2023, when two bakeries in the Roma neighborhood, CDMX, Tomasa and Santas Conchas, began to give away -in bags sealed by the adidas logo- shells in three different flavors: strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Would that action bring forward this special edition of the Superstar?
The Trefoil brand then unveils on the global market this new silhouette with a design that evokes candy from the sole to the upper. Its upper is covered in synthetic fur with an inlaid pattern of lines and marbled textures, over which additional piping runs along the entire sneaker. The brand’s signature three stripes are also embroidered, creating contrast in a darker tone.
The adidas emblem and naming have just closed the design of the sneaker framed in a collection that will go on sale exclusively at adidas Mexico and select retailers on May 18.
