Kamala could go down in history tomorrow as the first woman, and the second person of colour, to reach the White House. In the meantime, we continue to highlight her culinary facet and/or passion for gastronomy through the diet that the presidential candidate follows. One with which, like many other politicians, she also aligns herself with certain communities, values and traditions.
After unpacking the culinary facet of the most foodie presidential candidate in US history, we now serve up a menu of some of Harris’s favourite dishes, which provide her with the energy she needs to be able to fulfil her busy political agenda.
Cereals and green tea
Harris doesn’t make a big deal about breakfast. However, he often eats the classic ‘Raisin Bran’ cereal with almond milk in the mornings. Like Trump, she forgoes coffee in favour of green tea.
Rice with curd cheese
For lunch, Harris sometimes turns to cottage cheese rice, an Indian dish of mashed rice, unsweetened yoghurt, salt, pomegranate seeds and spices. The flavours of coriander, green chilli, cashew nuts and coconut oil collide in this dish.
Gumbo on white rice
Gumbo, the staple dish of Creole cuisine and popular in the United States, is also a favourite. Packed with chicken, shrimp, Andouille sausage, celery, onions, herbs and spices, the regional speciality of New Orleans is another favourite in Harris’s culinary imagination.
Pecan and bourbon caramel cake
Like Joe Biden, Kamala has a sweet tooth. A fan of caramel and chocolate, the vice president loves hot bourbon and chocolate caramel pecan pie.
