Jordi Roca has become one of the chefs who makes the most of social networks. From sharing recipes to new creations of his business or creating fun videos with his nephews. In one of his latest posts he has combined all that to announce the special products that Rocambolesc has launched for Easter. Characterized in the style of Marlon Brando in The Godfather, Jordi appears petting a dog while his nephew Martí Roca asks him if he can make traditional Easter cakes this year, because he is tired of being the one with the ‘freaky’ cakes. Of course, the confectioner tells him that it is not possible and ends the video saying: “You’re going to flip out with this year’s mona”.
With this fun action, Jordi Roca and Rocambolesc have kicked off the Easter season. For this year, they wanted to remember all the (a)typical sweets they have been launching over the years. That’s why we wanted to review their star creations, in case you don’t want to miss them this year.
On Rocambolesc’s website you can see the full catalog of ‘monas’, although most are only available in store. In 2017, the confectioner launched an original mona called Moai. It emerged from Jordi’s trip to the Polynesian island of Rapa Nui. For this sweet, Roca was inspired by the Moai, a typical sculpture there, as a tribute to the story of the bird-man, El Tangata-Manu. It is made with 44% milk chocolate and caramelized hazelnut carambinas covered with dark chocolate. In store you can buy it for 45 €.
From the iconic and supportive Mona from the Mona Foundation, which launched in 2018 together with the foundation that is dedicated to the welfare and conservation of primates. It is a very special piece of milk chocolate and dark chocolate. It contains crunchy and salted peanut carambinas inside. And part of the profits go directly to the foundation, which allocates them to the rehabilitation and rescue of abused and/or abandoned primates.
In 2021, Jordi also surprised by launching the Mona Lisa, a work of art made with milk chocolate (44% cocoa) combined with caramelized hazelnut carambines coated with dark chocolate. Now it has been put back on sale, only in the store, for 45 €.
Another iconic piece of the Roca’s confectioner is the Mona Nosepass, which he defines as a legendary monkey for the little ones in the house. And let’s not forget the mythical Darth Vader, inspired by the Star Wars character but with a curious nose with Jordi’s seal. Another very memorable elaboration is the Dragon’s Egg, which looks like a collector’s item, but in delicious 44% cocoa milk chocolate. Each one is also worth 45 €.
Among the novelties, this year they have launched the Mona Pio Pio, in the shape of a chick that you can customize with your face. In addition, inside there are freeze-dried corn shrimp coated with white chocolate and vanilla, which provide an explosion of textures and flavors. It is priced at 47 €. They also have the Three pairs of eggs, which is an assortment with 3 chocolate coatings and filled with jelly beans, for 21 €. Finally, they have come up with another creation: the Colomba de Pascua, a typical Italian Easter sweet, quite similar to Panettone, which costs 42 €.
It is clear that Jordi Roca is a big fan of Easter monas because he has also dedicated a special section at Casa Cacao. Here you can try the Mona Huevo de Pascua, made of 70% dark chocolate from Ecuador, molded with the charming silhouette of an Easter bunny. Inside, irresistible surprises await: carambinas made from the highest quality cocoa beans. And they also have a milk chocolate egg with almond crunch and a dark chocolate egg with hazelnut crunch.
Will Jordi Roca have any more surprises in store for this year in the form of original Easter cakes?
