The Macallan breaks with time, space and its price range to pay tribute to its own 200-year legacy. Now, to celebrate that historic anniversary it toasts with a new $190,000 whisky ornately bottled in a double chamber.
One of the chambers, dating from 1940, contains a whiskey matured for more than eight decades in which notes of charred pineapple, roasted peaches, crystallized ginger, anise, blackberry jam, wood smoke, resin and caramelized sugar are diluted.
Meanwhile, the other chamber represents the distillery’s future with a 2018 whisky with notes of golden sultanas, baked apples, lemon and lime. This, as well as the previous one, were matured for years in oak casks seasoned with sherry.
As for the design of the ‘TIME: SPACE‘ chambers, its exterior takes on a ring shape and contains the 1940 whisky, while the inner chamber is a removable decanter with the 2018. Surrounding the chambers is a spiked oak sculpture evoking the protection of nature.
Exclusivity surrounds this new liquid work of which only 200 units have been created at a price of $190,000 each.
