Donald Trump‘s return to the White House has marked a before and after in the US presidency, marking his most radical era in which he has decided to do away with everything, or at least, with everything ‘opposed to his ideals’ and/or that is not aligned with his vision of America. One of his latest news items, not without controversy, has been related to his communiqué in which he stated that his team was in the process of dismissing more than a thousand people who had been appointed by Joe Biden. Our first day in the White House is not over’, Trump said in X.

Chef José Andrés, revered around the world for his gastronomic and humanitarian work through his NGO World Central Kitchen, has been, to no one’s surprise, one of the first to be affected by Trump’s decision; being removed from the position he held since 2022 as Presidential Advisor on Sports, Exercise and Nutrition.

‘José Andrés of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, Mark Milley of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, Brian Hook of the Wilson Center for Scholars and [former Atlanta Mayor] Keisha Lance Bottoms of the President’s Export Council: YOU ARE FIRED!’, Trump wrote on X using the phrase he made famous on his TV show “The Apprentice”.

It was in March 2022 when Joe Biden appointed José Andrés as co-chair of the Sports, Fitness and Nutrition Council for being an ‘internationally recognised innovative chef’. However, Trump has now decided to end that position, among many others.

Trump vs. José Andrés

Those who have followed the controversial relationship between Trump and José Andrés will not have been surprised by the measure that the president has decided to carry out. In this sense, the Spanish chef has publicly opposed the Republican’s policies because of his ‘hatred’ of immigrants, among other things.

If we go back to 2015, before Donald Trump assumed the presidency, the tycoon decided to hire the chef for the restaurant at his luxury hotel in Washington D.C. However, he would end up withdrawing his company ThinkFoodGroup from the equation after demonstrating his hatred of Mexicans. The billionaire then decided to sue him for $10 million in damages. In April 2017, months after being inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States, the two announced that they had ‘amicably’ resolved the dispute.
