The best paella in the world is served in this restaurant in Valencia

The paella of the hotel-restaurant Miguel y Juani has risen to the top of the 63rd edition of the Concurs Internacional de Paella Valenciana de Sueca with the title of ‘best paella in the world’; among countless spectators who were able to watch the spectacle of the simultaneous creation of paellas live.

This family-run restaurant, founded in 1989 by Miguel y Juani, focuses on traditional Mediterranean market cuisine, specialising in rice dishes, fresh fish, meat and homemade desserts. In recent years, its success has been such that it has been awarded international prizes such as 1st prize in the 2014 Sueca Paella Competition and 2nd prize in the 2014 Gandia Fideuá.

Now, his €13 Valencian paella, prepared by chef Paco Rodríguez and his assistant Rafael Climent, has been judged the best in the competition and has been awarded a prize of €2,500, presented by the mayor of Sueca, Julián Sáez.

Competition requirements

To compete in the competition, the first requirement was to be the owner or representative of a catering company and to prepare a fifteen-serving paella following the recipe stipulated by the Organising Committee of the Concurs Internacional de Paella Valenciana de Sueca. In addition, the paella had to be made with a series of essential ingredients: rice from Sueca, chicken, rabbit, snails, garrofó, tavella, bajoqueta or saffron.

Meanwhile, the Atlantis restaurant from Santa Cruz de Tenerife won the second prize of 1,500 euros, and Socarrat Restaurante, from Miramar, Buenos Aires (Argentina) won the third prize of 1,000 euros.
