The best paella in the world in 2023 is served in this restaurant in Sueca (Valencia)

This weekend was held the 62nd edition of the International Valencian Paella Competition in Sueca. We reveal you which restaurant of that town has won.

Sueca is the capital of paella. Therefore, it is not surprising that this Valencian town organizes the International Valencian Paella Contest, which chooses the best paella in the world. This weekend the 62nd edition was held, and the winner was a restaurant from Sueca: Sequial 20. The Valencian restaurant takes over from Crocus Servicios Gastronómicos, from Mexico, which won last year.

In this 2023, 45 chefs from 15 different countries participated and on the podium, in addition to the Sueca restaurant, whose chef is Juan José Bartolomé Grau, there were also Paella Guys (from Canada) and the Bon Aire restaurant (from El Palmar, Valencia).

Sequial 20 already won this recognition 13 years ago. According to the restaurant’s chef when he won the award, there are no secrets when it comes to cooking paella, stating that it depends mainly on the practice and love with which you prepare it. In addition, he told Infobae that what he likes most is to “sauté the meat a lot, use local products, such as rice from the Albufera, vegetables from the village (Sueca) and use local products”.

In the restaurant’s menu, in addition to the traditional paella, for 12-14 € per portion, you should also try their chicken and ribs paella, baked rice, Senyoret, lobster or Iberian secret with boletus and garlic, among others. It also serves a menu of the day for 17 €.
