When you are a prestigious chef, it is normal to receive flattering criticisms about your work, but you also have to be prepared to know that not everyone will like you. Of course, sometimes situations like the one that happened to Jordi Cruz with Bill Gates are not so easy to digest, never better said. The Catalan chef took advantage of his participation in Jesús Calleja’s programme to tell an anecdote he had with the co-founder of Microsoft that was somewhat unpleasant for Cruz.
Calleja took advantage of the interview to ask if he used to receive special thanks from people who had “freaked out” about his food. Jordi affirmed that it was something usual, but decided to tell a completely opposite situation. He went on to relate his peculiar anecdote with Gates, with a beginning that already hinted at the direction the interview was going to take. “There are people who have money, who are a bit fed up with everything and value it less”, commented the chef.
Apparently, some time ago Bill Gates went to visit the three-star restaurant ABaC in Barcelona. He decided to reserve the whole place just for him and his team. “We had the biggest thing ready for him to eat. And do you know what Bill did? He ordered a cola and went to the plane,” he said.
The chef, visibly annoyed, continued: “Do you think you have to close a nice place to come and drink a cola? To which Calleja, very surprised, asked him if he had not tasted any of the gastronomy. “Zero”, Cruz stated categorically. However, as the Catalan chef concluded, at least “the little team did their best”, he said with a laugh.
