The sriracha-loving community is in mourning for another year. A new wave of shortages is looming for the spicy sauce with which they spice up their favourite dishes. They should all stock up on the sauce while they can, because according to its manufacturer Huy Fong Foods, the red jalapeño pepper shortage is back. That is, the condiment’s key ingredient.

‘After re-evaluating our supply of chilli, we have determined that it is too green to proceed with production, as it is affecting the colour of the product,’ Huy Fong Foods told wholesale buyers, according to USA Today. ‘We regret to inform you that we have decided to halt production until after Labor Day, when our next chili season begins.’

This time last year, Huy Fong Foods was also forced to give an explanation for the severe shortages they were experiencing due to a shortage of their raw material (chilli) due to alarming weather conditions. A problem that continues to haunt this year’s production, making it difficult to create these iconic red bottles with green caps.

The Californian company is thus facing a new supply shortage after suspending production until September, when the next chilli season is expected to start up again despite the drought.
