Carlos Maldonado won the third edition of ‘Masterchef’ and, since then, he has become one of the most beloved and committed chefs. In addition to succeeding with his restaurant Raíces, located in Talavera de la Reina, which has a Michelin star thanks to a traditional and avant-garde gastronomic proposal rooted in the land, the chef from Toledo also has a Foundation dedicated to strengthening human rights, especially of the most vulnerable, through training, research or social assistance, among other tasks. The foundation’s latest initiative is Semillas, a school restaurant for the labor and social insertion of people at risk of exclusion.
In the program, Maldonado himself told more details about this “very nice project, with a lot of soul”. “We put in the hands of those who need it a tool for their future, so that they can fight for it and move forward,” added the chef.
Through learning, the school wants to provide its students with the knowledge and values that gastronomy provides, as well as bring out the virtues of the individual, fight for beliefs and dreams, build good habits, and break the rules by destroying many prejudices.
Semillas offers a daily menu for 15 €, which includes an appetizer, a choice of starters such as Crepes stuffed with lamb curry, a choice of main courses such as grilled pork with roasted bell pepper sauce and dessert. It also serves breakfast and has a solidarity store with different models of Fundación Raíces T-shirts.
