Modern society has been able to refresh and satiate itself this summer with the BRAT phenomenon, but also with Sabrina Carpenter‘s ‘Espresso’. The singer would release the hit single on April 11, generating a whole wave of fans stimulated by the caffeine her music exudes.
Putting the focus not now on her musical output, but on the stimulating beverage itself, the American artist sat down at the Chicken Shop Date show table to talk to comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg about her career, and her relationship with espresso. ‘I do, I just have to be brave when I drink them,’ she told Dimoldenberg. ‘It’s not that I like them for their taste, but for how they make me feel.’
On that sarcastic date -set in the London fried chicken restaurant Sam’s Chicken– Dimoldenberg began by offering the pop icon a cup of espresso, only to later ask, ‘Do I give off decaffeinated energy?’ To which Carpenter instinctively replied, ‘Yes,’ and the two began a discussion about what it meant to be an espresso guy. A conversation in which they addressed whether dating someone who is a doppelganger is too much. Sabrina said no, if you’re not a decaf.
What does it really mean to be a decaf espresso, single or double? Amelia and Sabrina don’t say precisely, but both seem to implicitly understand what they are talking about. The obvious comparison might be to say that these three levels of caffeine correlate to different levels of energy in a person.
