With the aim of reactivating the economy of the Valencian regions and businesses affected by the DANA, the constellation of Valencian chefs Begoña Rodrigo, Quique Dacosta and Ricard Camarena have decided to organise a culinary solidarity movement consisting of organising dinners all over the world alongside other star chefs.
These renowned culinary figures have decided to support the people through gastronomy, showing their full support for the victims of the DANA with this initiative with which they have mobilised Michelin-starred chefs such as the Italian Massimo Bottura and the Danish René Redzepi. All of them will hold a series of simultaneous charity dinners on 13 December, the proceeds of which will be used to rebuild the small businesses affected by the hurricane in Valencia.
Other emblematic chefs who have decided to join this solidarity cause include Pepe Rodríguez, Joan Roca, Eneko Atxa, Carmelo Bosque, Pepe Solla, Vicky Sevilla, Ángel León, the Roca brothers, Nandy Jubany and Javier Olleros, among many others.
The initiative ‘Desde Valencia para Valencia’, in collaboration with the Valencian Business Association (AVE), will have a ‘zero queue’ for donations, which will open on Thursday 7 November.
The vision of this solidarity initiative is simple but vital: to obtain economic resources to rebuild businesses with which to give hope back to the people affected by the DANA,’ says Ricard Camarena. All the money raised will be used to ‘reactivate small businesses, those bars, greengrocers and shops that have to feed our neighbours’.
The movement will be further enhanced by a series of three Michelin-starred chefs from Rome who will host a charity evening under the culinary direction of Massimo Bottura. Internationally, Colombia’s Harry Sasson, Brazil’s Alez Atala and Portugal’s José Avillez have also confirmed that they will be joining the event. Meanwhile, chef José Andrés will host a dinner in New York, and has said he will donate one million euros to the initiative.
The organisational costs will be borne by the chefs behind the initiative, while the funds raised will be managed through a Valencian public utility association with more than a decade of experience in the management of solidarity projects.
