Witherspoon now elaborates a new recipe using basic foods from the fridge, from which to draw inspiration when cooking a quick dinner when she can’t find the necessary inspiration.
She does it with the help of Los Angeles chef and food stylist Amanda Frederickson, an expert in viralizing simple recipes so that amateurs can recreate them without complications.
The iconic performer and Frederickson co-designed a delicious chicken that they unexpectedly devised with leftovers from the fridge. The ingredients? An orange, green beans, chicken, cooked rice, herbs, orange juice, garlic and soy sauce; as a compilation of seemingly unrelated elements with which they ended up building a delicious dish.
The recipe, step by step
The chef suggests serving orange chicken over rice with a side of green beans. To make the sauce, Witherspoon peels the orange into a measuring cup and pours one cup of orange juice. He then adds a half cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and a splash of rice vinegar, which he pours into a bowl, then drums the mixture.
Frederickson mixes the chicken with cornstarch, because he says it’s what gives the chicken a “crispy crust on the outside.” They brown the chicken in an oiled skillet, add the sauce to a hot skillet, stirring until reduced. Once ready, add the crispy cooked chicken and mix it with the sauce.
The final part comes with the plating of the orange chicken over reheated white rice with seasoned cooked green beans, garnished with fresh herbs.
