Ice creams are the true kings of summer. Although traditional flavors, such as chocolate, vanilla or nougat, are usually the most consumed, there are more and more original proposals to refresh the palates in this hot summer season. One example is the famous American ice cream chain, Salt and Straw, which in summer launches its “Summer Picnic” with the most striking seasonal flavors. This August was not going to be less and its new proposals include options such as fried chicken ice cream with cinnamon and honey or potato salad and chocolate. Would you try them?
Although it also has more “traditional” options such as the sour cherry tart, rosé wine and watermelon sorbet -which is also vegan- or the fig cheesecake and baked brie cheese.
The most peculiar summer flavors
The most eye-catching is undoubtedly the potato and chocolate salad. But what’s really in it? This flavor is made with mustard ice cream spiced with paprika, celery seeds and dill mixed in, as well as fried potato crackers, and topped with chocolate candy.
On the other hand, the cinnamon and honey fried chicken emulates Ezell’s Famous Chicken. This time, as specified by Salt and Straw, this ice cream is made with fresh croissants, broken into small pieces, which are fried in chicken fat to crispy perfection. They are then churned in salted vanilla ice cream. A touch of cinnamon, a drizzle of honey and a shake of secret spices give it a sweet Cajun warmth.
Another curiosity of Salt and Straw is that they are going to launch a special ice cream for dogs on the occasion of Dog Day, which is celebrated in the United States on August 26. For this purpose, they have created an ice cream with coconut ice cream and pieces of apple, carrot and sweet potato.
