About two years ago, the internet got wind of Pedro Pascal‘s Starbucks order, thanks to a chance encounter with a fan named @alexafromspace. After posting a photo of him holding the coffee and showing the ticket, users took to the internet to express their concern about the high dose the actor consumes. ‘Dad needs his coffee every morning to carry the whole world and a fandom on his shoulders,’ the caption read.

The Last of Us’ star’s order included six espresso coffees in total, which equates to about 384 mg of caffeine. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 400mg is the maximum amount of caffeine a person should consume before side effects begin to appear.

Pascal has now wanted to weigh in on the matter. Specifically, he would do so during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where Kimmel asked Pascal about the famous photo, which shows his coffee order stuck on the side of a Starbucks cup.

‘I can’t even begin to explain how violent this was. There’s so much context for it to have turned into six shots of espresso,’ Pascal explained. ‘It was always a quadruple, but then I think the cups got bigger and the shots got less strong. And at some point it became six.’

‘It was [an] incredibly private morning ritual that I didn’t want anyone to know about. I don’t drink any more coffee for the rest of the day, I swear,’ he admits in order to put the rumours to rest and defuse the public’s alarm. And if at this point you’re still wondering why he does it, the performer does it for this purpose: ‘You sip it. You get high and answer emails and stuff’.
