The latent trend of brands getting ahead of the seasons continues to proliferate in the food industry, accelerating the cycle of extreme consumerism. Now, even though fall is not many months away, Oreo has brought back its spooky, limited-edition cookies in the middle of August.

The Oreo Boo! cookies, which debuted last year during the Halloween season, feature an orange cream and prints or designs that include spider webs, ghosts, bats, pumpkins, as well as the phrase ‘dare to dunk’ or the classic ‘boo’.

Although for those looking for the coveted ‘pumpkin spice’ flavor, like the great fall flavor profile, or something that distinguishes the cookies from the originals in more than just aesthetics, these exclusive Oreos don’t offer much else.

In fact, it already says so on the packaging: ‘Same flavor’ – maybe there’s something about Halloween food that triggers a subconscious collective craving response?
