The romance novel author is now breaking his fans’ hearts, and not with one of his works, but with a culinary elaboration. Nicholas Sparks is now hogging the spotlight on social media after sharing in an interview his recipe for a chicken salad, questioned for the excess of a particular ingredient.
After the uproar, he decided to share the full recipe in an Instagram post with a text in which he expresses: ‘I usually incorporate recipes into my novels, but in my recent article in The New York Times they mentioned one that I created and prepare myself often. To my surprise, it’s getting a lot of attention on the Internet, so I wanted to give you the full recipe!’
The dish in question has standard ingredients such as roasted chicken, celery and Vidalia onion. The addition is what changes everything: Splenda sweetener, 16 packets to be exact. That’s what caught people off guard, leading them to criticize him for incorporating the sweet ingredient into the salad. To all this he adds a dressing composed of mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, jalapeño relish, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper.
In the interview, Sparks clarified that he uses Splenda instead of sugar because he prefers to eat low-carb, adding, ‘You can use real sugar, but why put sugar in it when you can use Splenda?’
