Avocado devotees will be shocked by this new variety that is already proving to be a hit. Characterized by its small seed, colossal size, and delicious buttery flavor, the avocado that sprouts from the ‘Jala‘ tree is presented as an innovative species cultivated by Lorna Spackman, an 81-year-old gardener from Queensland, Australia. Now, after more than three decades of dedication, her avocado is about to revolutionize the market globally.
Jala’s origins go back three decades. To one particular moment: when Spackman’s late husband, Ken, saved a seed from an avocado of unknown lineage before clearing the meadows on their Palmwoods farm. That seed would be the beginning of what would become a great legacy.
After planting the seed, Spackman meticulously developed and cultivated the avocado alongside other great varieties, such as the South African Avozilla and the South Florida Choquette. Out of that effort would come the pinnacle of avocados: a tree that produces giant versions of the fruit at a super-productive rate.
The avocados, which weigh an average of 1 and 1.2 kilograms, are already available in some Queensland greengrocers and greengrocers, such as the independent Produce Art store.
