Dadi cinema in Kuala Lumpur’s Pavilion replaces popcorn with an unusual menu as part of the cinema experience. This ‘HotPot cinema’, which has become a widespread trend in China’s major cities that unlocks a new screen in the cinema. Something that has been seen in countless videos recorded in specialized cinemas in Beijing, Chengdu, Qingdao, Changsha and Guangzhou, which project that Hot Pot cinemas are the new viral sensation.
The hot pot is introduced in its billboard to make up this sensory and immersive menu. Inside what appears to be a conventional movie theater, each seat is equipped with a table with an induction stove, where diners can cook the ingredients of their choice in a simmering pot of broth while the movie plays on the big screen.
When the screening begins, the movie theater lights are dimmed, and the table is left illuminated with two small night lights so that patrons can see their meal and the hot pot.
To prevent the steam from the pots from affecting the cinematic experience, the theaters use smaller pots with less aromatic broths instead of the traditional butter bases.
This experience can also be experienced in the new cinema that has just opened in Chengdu, China. Cinker Pictures has made a name for itself by designing theaters that evoke the charm of historic cinemas in London and New York, and serves this trendy dish, also known as ‘Chinese fondue’, at its tables.
