This institution of Parisian haute cuisine, which reopened its doors in October after an 18-month renovation, has reported the disappearance of 83 bottles of rare wines valued at 1.6 million dollars.
This dissolution took place in one of its key settings: the restaurant’s labyrinthine wine cellars which, among its more than 300,000 references, include prestigious Bordeaux such as Romanééé Conti. Police are currently investigating the case, although no clear evidence of theft has yet been found, according to the BBC.
According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, some of his ‘newer’ bottles from 2011 could be worth more than $16,000, while the older ones from 1999 were even worth more than $30,000.
This 400-year-old Michelin-starred gastronomic landmark, beyond its prestigious location and culinary offerings, is also widely known for having served at its tables iconic personalities ranging from King Louis XIV to artists such as Salvador Dalí and Marilyn Monroe.
