How to prepare mayak eggs, the addictive Korean viral recipe

Asian cuisine is causing a sensation on social media. One of the latest dishes being widely shared on TikTok is the recipe for mayak eggs, a South Korean dish marinated in a tasty mixture of soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, peppers, onion, chili and sesame seeds, among other ingredients. ‘Mayak’ (mayag) in Korean means “dope” and gets its name because it tastes so delicious it’s hooked. We have looked up the original Korean recipe so you can prepare it at home. Take note!

Mayak eggs recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 120 ml soy sauce
  • 120 ml water
  • 120 ml rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 1 chopped green chili
  • 1 red chili, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Preparation:

  • In a saucepan put enough water to cover 6 eggs. Bring it to a boil and add salt and vinegar and bring it to a boil. Then add the eggs and cook them for 6-7 minutes so that the yolks remain liquid.
  • Then let the eggs cool in cold water and set aside.
  • To prepare the sauce, mix the soy, water and rice vinegar and stir until everything is well integrated. Then add the garlic, green onions, chili peppers and sesame seeds (all finely chopped) and continue stirring.
  • Then carefully peel the eggs and place them in an airtight container. Add the sauce and store in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours (or overnight, for example).
  • After that time, you can enjoy them with hot cooked rice and a little sesame oil.
