Vegans and/or lactose intolerant people will soon be able to enjoy the first ever Plant-Based Nutella. The vegan product will be available in some European countries from autumn 2024, such as Italy and Germany, where Ferrero has already registered patents for the cream.
The vegan Nutella will be certified vegan, and is expected to taste virtually identical to the original. The only animal product in the original Nutella is skimmed milk powder, which accounts for about 8.7% of the recipe, so this could be replaced with any alternative to powdered milk.
The announcement came at Nielsen’s Linkontro 2024 event, after a series of rumors spread as a riposte to Ferrero’s 2023 patent application. Ferrero also confirmed the news at Green Queen. ‘At Ferrero, we are always exploring and exploring new categories and emerging food trends.’
