Donald Trump has decided to bring plastic straws back to the United States because ‘paper straws don’t work‘. This is a move that directly opposes Biden’s plan to eliminate single-use plastics by 2035 in all federal agencies, events and operations in the country.

On Friday night, Friday the 7th, the president communicated it this way on his social media, “I will sign an Executive Order next week to end Biden’s ridiculous push for paper straws, which don’t work. LET’S GO BACK TO PLASTIC.” Trump thus demolishes the previous administration’s climate policies after receiving $14 million in donations from the oil and gas industry in his 2024 campaign.

In 2024, the Biden administration drafted an 83-page report entitled ‘Mobilizing Federal Action on Plastic Pollution‘, which emphasized plastic pollution as one of the most pressing environmental problems in the United States, and around the world. This report was deleted by the Trump administration.

This is not the first time Trump has lashed out at paper straws. In 2019, Trump’s campaign website declared, “Liberal paper straws don’t work.” But instead of offering an explanation for that, it used it as an opportunity to sell its own branded plastic straws at $15 for a pack of 10. It added: “Support President Trump and buy your recyclable straws today.”
