On August 7, coffee companies held the ‘Best of Panama 2024‘ auction, which highlights the work of the country’s main producers and their creations. In this year’s edition, a new record was set when the lot of Elida Geisha Natural Torre coffee, from the Lamastus family farm, was sold for 10,013 dollars per kilogram.
‘Thank you to all the bidders, and a special thanks to the lot winners, Saza Coffee of Japan,’ the estate shared in an Instagram post following the auction. As the estate noted, a portion of the lot was also purchased by Grand Cru Coffee, OKLAO Specialty Coffee, Brew Boyy Crew, Ruber Roastery, Pebble Coffee for Simple Kaffa, Paradise Coffee Roasters and Ruliweb.
‘After 100 years of hard work and four generations dedicated to this product, to achieve such greatness with a company 13,000 km away in Japan feels amazing. We feel very grateful and honored.’ On behalf of the Lamastus family and Panama, we cannot express our thanks enough.’
Panama once again demonstrates that the patterns that govern the coffee scene are changing towards a very exquisite specialty model. Quality is becoming an essential element in today’s Panamanian coffee. For this reason, producers are focusing their production on the Geisha bean, which is known for its intense floral flavor with notes of lemongrass and stone fruits.
