David Beckham attended Stella Artois’ “Let’s Do Dinner” event in NYC. There, he spoke to PEOPLE magazine about his spiritual connection to the brand, and the gastronomic and friendly bond he has with Gordon Ramsay.
We’ve been friends for about 22 years, and he’s cooked for me once. Once in 22 years,’ David expressed in a sarcastic tone. The iconic former footballer would also talk about the ‘worth more’ moments of the campaign he maintains through food.
That’s why I love to cook. That’s why I love to eat. That’s why I always like to barbecue for the family, because it really brings us together. Our family has always been a family that sits down at six o’clock every night, when we’re all in the same country,’ he says. ‘And we’ve always had barbecues on Sundays. I think that’s why I like to cook so much, because I like to make my family happy, and I think they love what I cook’.
Beckham also spoke of how it was none other than Ramsay who helped one of his sons learn how to cook a top dish. ‘One of my sons is obsessed with beef Wellington and he taught him how to do it himself,’ says David of the one time he had the chance to sample Ramsay’s cooking. ‘So he wasn’t really even cooking for us, but we ended up eating it anyway.’
Beckham also recalled a time when he had a cooking competition with Ramsay on a Los Angeles show, in which his competitor ‘obviously won’.
