The iconic whisky brand The Macallan teamed up with Cirque du Soleil to create a fully immersive theatrical experience that focused on the sensory and transformative power of nature. In this sense, the performances and tastings were diluted into a single storyline that enveloped participants in a journey celebrating the beauty and power of the natural world.

This fusion, which combined the art of both universes, took place at the Scottish distillery of The Macallan Estate, Speyside. A privileged location that added an exclusive dimension to the ‘Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT’ show; celebrated to mark the whisky brand’s bicentenary anniversary.

The show featured performances by legendary artists, paired with their liquid expression set in one of the distillery’s 21,000 square foot warehouses within walking distance of Easter Elchies House, the ancestral home of The Macallan. Each evening 150 guests toasted the virtuosity of circus characters in connection with the culture and history of the brand.

During the show, the audience wandered in the dark through their space to explore and even paint in one of the art ‘labs’. There were several acts at once, accompanying this story starring the spiritual guardian of the Scottish Highlands, Davonna, alongside a young colourist named Ayla, as the whisky maker’s daughter.

Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT even featured a recreation of the River Spey, revered for its role in whisky production, which shared the stage with flamenco dancing and bagpipes. And, of course, the show was rounded off with glasses of golden oak of The Macallan in which visitors were able to experience all the flavour notes of the performances, which began on 9 May and ended on 31 May.
