Chris Hemsworth has one of the most envied physiques in the world. But he’s also one of the most disciplined actors with established healthy habits. In fact, he created the Centr platform to transform people’s health, fitness and mindset through a programme of personalised workouts and nutrition plans from the best professionals. In charge of the app’s nutritional advice is Spanish chef Sergio Perera, who has also been the actor’s personal chef when he has had to prepare different characters such as Thor.
Sergio Perera is a Spanish chef based in Australia. He has worked in some of the best restaurants in the world, including Ferran Adrià’s elBulli. He also created Arrel, an educational and research centre to promote food culture and sustainability globally through its think tank. And, of course, he has also been in charge of preparing the diet of both Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. In fact, in an interview he gave to DailyMail, he revealed some of the secrets of his diet.
What is Chris Hemsworth’s diet?
The Spanish chef revealed that when the actor is trying to bulk up, he prioritises meat. He also opts for lighter foods, such as fresh seafood, for the evening because they are easier to digest. He also commented that both Chris and his wife Elsa Pataky are both very disciplined and very committed to health.
One of the most important meals for Perera is breakfast, which should include protein, complex carbohydrates, vegetables and fats. Hemsworth’s authentic breakfast of champions consists of grilled steak, Paleo bread and fried eggs, followed by a green smoothie with plant-based protein powder, spirulina, fresh kale, mint, frozen mango, olive oil and sea salt.
With regard to carbohydrates, the chef opts for healthy carbohydrates rice, quinoa or buckwheat; as well as incorporating many healthy fats, such as extra virgin olive oil and avocado, which help muscle recovery after intense workouts. Another aspect of the actor’s diet that his personal chef emphasises is that it is a satiating diet, and he recommended having a mid-afternoon meal, opting for vegetable soups or rice cakes.
Another of the tricks he revealed to DailyMail had to do with hydration. As soon as he starts his day, the actor drinks warm water with lemon juice and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. This helps the body stay alkaline for better absorption of nutrients. Throughout the day, Perera recommended drinking at least two litres of filtered water.
This is how Thor feeds
On the other hand, Sergio Perera also revealed on Centr’s Blog what the actor’s daily diet consisted of when he was filming Thor, in order to maintain a balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats, while eating to build muscle with a higher calorie intake of whole, fresh and nutrient-rich foods:
- Pre-workout snack: chocolate blueberry smoothie bowl
- Breakfast: savoury oatmeal with prosciutto and mushrooms
- Lunch: Roast chicken with grilled broccoli and lemon salad
- Post-workout snack: Super green smoothie
- Dinner: Almond crusted fish with buckwheat salad
