“Vines that are in our memory, sheltered and lost, that represent the origin, the past and that give beginning to a beautiful story that took place in a calm time, 2021”, reads the poetic manifesto with which the first white wine of Bodegas Tinto Pesquera, origin of the red wines of Familia Fernández Rivera, is born.
This is a historic creation that marks a turning point in the winemaking heritage of the family behind the Ribera del Duero appellation, with which it will continue to be a benchmark in the wine sector both nationally and globally.
Made from white grapes of the indigenous Albillo Mayor variety, of very limited production and whose vines are scattered among plots of Tempranillo, this wine acquires a singular personality and prominence that connects with the evocative mantra of the Fernández Rivera Family.
Tradition and innovation
On the banks of the Duero River (at an altitude of 900 metres), on small plots of chalky soils, white grape vines grow interspersed with Tempranillo vines. This variety, called Albillo Mayor, which was planted in time immemorial in their villages, is selected cluster by cluster for subsequent fermentation in French oak barrels, where it will continue its ageing on its own lees and batonnage for 7 months.
This harmonious process of elaboration and/or ageing of the Albillo provides the nuances typical of this variety, between white flowers and a slight presence of stone fruit with citric notes. The French oak adds a persistence in the mouth and a slight creaminess, giving the wine its own unique identity.
